alarm system kits are marketed as entry level alarm systems at a low
price. They are designed only to monitor a small area. Therefore, they
are ideal for the security conscious apartment dweller, RV owner, or
dorm room student. They are also good for protecting a valuable such
as a boat.
Because of the low price home alarm system kits are not designed to
be monitored by outside services. They often work with traditional land
lines, cellular networks, and broadband Internet-based phone systems
to allow you to monitor your property from a remote location. In addition,
if you are on location you can activate a siren speaker to ward off
a burglar.
Some vendors claim their home alarm system kits are pet friendly because
you can attach a shield into place to block off parts of the motion
detection. They also run self diagnostics that reports abnormal conditions
that would negatively affect the kit's ability to protect your home.
Of course, if money was not an option, a monitoring service would handle
any maintenance issues, but if you're on a budget a kit may be the best
solution.
