Mesa is the third largest city in Arizona with a population of 463,552 people. It is surpassed only by Phoenix and Tucson in population size. In the United States, it ranks as the 38th largest city.

According to FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports for 2008, an incident of property crime took place in Mesa approximately every 34 minutes.  Due to its size, the area experiences high property crime rates, and burglaries represent a good portion of those crimes.  In 2008, in Mesa alone, a burglary occurred almost every three hours. These statistics do not include home invasions carried out for other disturbing purposes such as assault, rape, murder or arson.
