Elgin is a city northwest of Chicago, Illinois, and is the 441st largest city in the United States. Approximately 106,330 residents call Elgin home. Although it has been argued that Elgin is a suburb of Chicago, natives insist it is a city all its own.
According to the FBI's 2008 Uniform Crime Reports, Elgin experienced an instance of property crime about once every four hours. Overall, the area maintains a lower risk of crime than the national average; however, the area experiences notable numbers of property crime rates compared to the city’s population. The nearby Chicago metropolis holds much higher averages in all areas. Please also note that these statistics do not include home invasions resulting in assault, rape, murder or arson.

As populations increase and cities overflow into the suburbs, now may be the time to review your current home security system. Alarm systems, including wireless systems, are ideal crime deterrents. Consult with a fully trained home security specialist to find the system to best meet your needs. Professional or self-installation of alarms and other home security components are smart measures to take when improving home security.
Alarm systems and wireless security cameras will add to your sense of safety and well being, as well as resulting in premium reductions on your homeowner’s insurance policy.
The Community Initiatives Division of the Elgin Police Department sponsors several programs with the goal of ensuring safety for you, your friends, family and neighbors. Join their efforts to increase Elgin home security through involvement with a Neighborhood Watch Committee.
Although the Elgin area is safer than neighboring cities and most cities around the United States, remember that every town is at risk for violent and property crimes. It is for this reason that home security should be paramount.
